Pastor Al was called to Resurrection in 2009 after serving for 17 years in Oregon. He received his Bachelor of Art's degree in Theology from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, and his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Pastor Al met Char while they were both attending college. Celebrating 27 years of marriage now, they have been blessed with three children, Kim, Jake, and Josh. If you know anything about Pastor Al, you know he is a die-hard Alabama football fan. Roll Tide! You are encouraged to ask him about Alabama's 15 national championships! Therefore, hobbies include watching Alabama play football, keeping up with their recruiting success, and tracking how many more days until kickoff.


randywinsandExecutive Pastor - Randy Winsand

Pastor Randy serves as Pastor of Outreach at Resurrection. He originally grew up on a farm in Wisconsin and spent time in the Air Force (Desert Storm Vet) before returning to college for a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. After several years in sales and administration, he followed his calling to Seminary and was ordained in 2013. Pastor Randy served his first call in NW Ohio before moving to Oro Valley. Some of his hobbies include golf, photography, hiking, and Green Bay Packer football.



 Evangelism Pastor - Tim Nybroten

 Pastor Tim was called to Resurrection as the Evangelism Pastor in May of 2017.  His ministry passions include Kingdom building, pastoral care and sports’ ministries.  He is thrilled to now minister in the beautiful communities of Oro Valley and SaddleBrooke.  Pastor Tim attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He was ordained in 2000, and has served three different congregations in southern Wisconsin.  He loves spending time with his wife, Chandra, and children, Hannah (19) and Joshua (17).  He also enjoys golfing, spending time in the great outdoors, traveling around God’s great creation, and cheering on his beloved Badgers and Packers.

Pastor Wayne received his Master of Divinity, MST and DR of Ministry degrees from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Chicago. He served as pastor in various Lutheran Churches in Illinois and Wisconsin. Most recently he served for 6 years as pastor of The Community Church at SaddleBrooke and then as Interim pastor at Resurrection for 3 years. Pastor Wayne and his wife Pat are both natives of Milwaukee and have 3 married daughters and 4 grandchildren. They are enjoying life in SaddleBrooke.

Pastor Jim attended Augsburg College and Luther Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. He served in parishes in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Arizona. He is married to Anita and they have 4 grown kids and 10 grandchildren. He likes to read, fish, loaf around the house, and watch TV.

Pastor Roger spent twenty years in the Navy Chaplain Corps, then four years as a hospice chaplain with Carondelet Health Care System here in Tucson. He has served churches in Texas and at the Community Church at SaddleBrooke. Roger and his wife, Sue, have three children, one of whom lives in Oro Valley. He enjoys volunteering at Northwest Hospital, cycling, and visiting grandchildren in Virginia, Oregon, and locally. The Bucket List isn’t very long, but includes becoming more consistent in writing for his blogsite, riding in his 13th El Tour de Tucson, and taking more photography hikes in the Catalinas.

Gretchen Crandall

Gretchen was born and raised in Santa Ana, CA. It was there she met her husband, Jim, when they were in 7th grade and have now been married for 32 years. They have 3 children, Robert, Joey and Grace. She never imagined herself living anywhere but Southern California, but when her husband’s job brought them to Tucson in 1983, she can’t imagine leaving this beautiful desert! Gretchen loves to spend time with her family, read, and has recently begun to join her husband on the golf course.

Char was born and raised in near Seattle, Washington and spent most of her life in the Northwest. She and her husband, Al, have been married for 27 years and have 3 kids, Kim, Jake, and Josh. Char's "Bucket List" mainly consists of traveling around Europe. She someday will see the Parthenon and Acropolis in Greece, century old castles in Ireland, drive the Autobahn, as well as tour vineyards in France and Italy. Char's favorite place to vacation is where there are sandy beaches and lots of sunshine. She loves to read, do crafts, watch her kids play sports, and travel.

Helen Thoenes

Helen was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. She is married to Steve and they have three sons, Taylor (26), Paul (22) and Christian (20). They are empty nesters with one "re-nester" living with them, Helen's 87 year old father. Helen's top 3 "Bucket List" items are: to be accepted to and win the Amazing Race with Brooke Wood, own a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and see the work of Antoni Guadi in Barcelona, Spain. Her favorite vacations are going to the beach and houseboating, and she loves to shop, work out, eat, and music.

Brenda O'Connor

Brenda was born in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Tucson at age 10. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies from the University of Arizona. She has been married to her husband Pat for 23 years and they have 2 children, Kendra (21) and Justin (19). Brenda is passionate about family, friends, dogs, ministry, cooking, and the beach!

Janitzy Spencer

Janitzy was born and raised in Southern California. She is married to Eric and has three boys, Josiah (8), Elijah (10), and Isaiah (13) and graduated from Loyaola Marymount University with a degree in Theology with an emphasis in Psychology and Philosophy. After college, Janitzy worked in administration of a medical practice. She then did sales and provider services for at senior health plan. Janitzy and her family moved to Tucson three years ago and have learned to love desert life. She keeps busy with the boys and their activities, substituting for the last year at Amphi Schools, and continuously working with her photograpy. Janitzy loves to spend time with family and friends. She also enjoys photography, travel of any kind, and watching movies.

High School Youth Director - Jason jason benedictBenedict

 Jason is a native to Southern Arizona and a lifelong Arizona resident. He grew up on a ranch in Sonoita, Arizona. He then attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. After graduation he moved to Chandler where he lived and worked for over 10 years. Jason and his family relocated to the Tucson area in 2011 and joined Resurrection as members in 2012.  He began his role as Resurrection's HS Youth Director in the Spring of 2014. Jason also works at Cord Blood Registry (CBR) where he fills the role of Senior Director of Consumer Sales and Service. CBR is a private Cord Blood Bank that processes and stores the stem cells found in cord blood and cord tissue for use in transplant and regenerative medicine. Jason and his wife Emily have four children, Michael (15), Aleena (12), Jens (9), and Jaren (8). Their favorite pastime is attending the many, many sports activities their children are involved in. When they have a little spare time they also enjoy camping, kayaking, hiking and cycling.

Chris Justesen  -

Chris was born and raised near Hershey, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University. She has been married to her husband Troy for 25 years. He brought 2 beautiful girls with him and we had three more for a grand total of 5 children. She even has 3 grandchildren in Nashville, TN! It has never been boring at her house. They moved west 19 years ago and in July will have been here for 18 of those years! She doesn't really have a bucket list but loves to travel and has been fortunate to have done a fair amount so far. Her life still mostly revolves around family and friends but one of her fondest dreams is to be able to retire with Troy and their boxer puppies in a house on the beach! You will all be welcome to visit!!

Tanya Elias-Graf -

Tanya received her MM from the New England Conservatory of Music and her BM from Pacific Lutheran University. Tanya studied conducting under Dr. Richard Sparks and has been director of many choirs since 1987. Tanya has appeared with companies such as the Portland Opera Co., Tacoma Youth Symphony, Lakewood Theater Co., and Broadway Rose Theater Company. Vocal awards include first place in both the Tacoma Opera Guild Competition and The National Association for Teachers of Singing Competition. Tanya has been a private vocal teacher as well as an adjunct college staff member. Tanya and her husband, David, are both natives of Oregon. She is blessed with one son, Joshua, one doggy, Kahlua, and three cats, Cinder, Squeakazoid and Magellan. No bucket list...just simply living each day as best she can. Visits with family in Oregon are top priority whenever possible; but the Arizona landscape and sunshine are breathtaking and healing!

Originally from Whitinsville, Massachusetts, Larry began to study the organ with LeRoy K. Hansen, Minister of Music of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester, Mass. He then attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he majored in music with a concentrate in organ perfomance studying under Dr. John E. Hammersma and Mrs. Shirly Boomsma. He continued to study the organ at Boston University under Dr. Max B. Miller, completing his Master's Degree in Organ Performance in 1989. Before moving to Arizona, Larry was the organist for many years at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church in Milton Mass. His interests include a passion for vocal polyphony of the late 16th century and a fascination with French and English Gothic architecture of the 12th and 13th centuries.

Ann was born and raised in Michigan. She and her husband, Glenn, have been married for 28 years and have 2 children – Emily and Andrew. Her “Bucket List” consists of traveling to all continents on the globe and also seeing baseball games in as many MLB parks as possible. Most of all, she loves to play with her grandson, Camden!

Jamee is a Northern California native who loves living in the beautiful AZ desert.  She has played piano for most of her life and loves accompanying and making music with others.  She also has fun teaching piano to students of all ages at her music academy in Oro Valley. Besides music, Jamee also enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and drinking coffee.


Accompanist - Pam Batten


Pam Grew up on a farm in Nebraska, graduated from the University of Nebraska, and taught High School Mathmatics for several years. After raising two children, she spent 22 years with IBM as a systems engineer and information technology consultant. Music, and serving as a church musician, has always been a part of Pam's life. She began playing the piano and organ in her hometown Lutheran church at age 13.

 Karen is a preacher’s kid raised in the upper Midwest. Married to Stan for 48 years; they have two daughters – Megan in NYC and Amy in Boston. When the girls were young, the family joined a missionary radio organization and served in the southern Caribbean and then Holland for ten years. Returning to the States, Karen went into the life insurance business. They moved to SaddleBrooke in 2006 and love it. She loves designing and making statement jewelry, playing the piano, singing in choir, and helping in ministry.

Charles Riddell -

Charles was born in Alexandria, Virginia then lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began directing his first church choir in 1969 while attending San Jose State University where he received a BA in music and a California teaching credential. He and his wife Vicki have been residents of SaddleBrooke since 2009. They have 2 daughters and will soon have 5 grandchildren who live in northern California. For most of his life Charles’ hobby has been collecting records with over 10,000 78’s, cylinders, LP’s and CD’s in his collection.

 Susan was born in Fruita, Colorado. She met her husband, Tom, while teaching elementary school in a mining company town called Uravan. The next few years they lived numerous locations in the west which involved 11 moves and 5 states. They have lived in Tucson for 29 years where they raised two boys. One lives in Portland, OR and one in Eureka, CA. Vacations are often spent in the NW enjoying the 4 grandchildren.

Glenn and his wife, Ann, have 2 children, Emily and Andrew, and one grandson, Camden.  One of his bucket list items is to pilot a small plane from here to Alaska and beyond to experience some of God's creations.
